How to Make a Zine Workshop

  • Central Library 301 West Claude Street Lake Charles, LA, 70605 United States (map)

Join the Bayou Writers' Group for a hands-on workshop led by Julia Rodriguez, Resource Development Manager for Southeast Texas Stages and a passionate zine maker. Julia will guide us through the art of crafting zines.

What’s a zine, you ask?
Think of it as a bite-sized book bursting with possibility. Whether it’s filled with short stories, poems, illustrations, lists, or life musings—zines are a powerful way to share your voice without needing a publisher’s permission.

Why should writers care?

Zines can be:
- A unique promotional tool for your work
- A pocket-sized portfolio to showcase your style
- A low-pressure, high-reward creative outlet
- A conversation starter with readers (and potential fans!)

Whether you're looking to explore a new format, promote your next book, or just want to play with paper and ideas—this event will spark your creativity and give you the tools to build something personal, bold, and unforgettable.

Supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own markers, pens, and paper scraps to personalize your creation.

No experience necessary. Just bring your imagination.
Writers of all genres and backgrounds welcome!

Let’s make something weird and wonderful together.
RSVP today and get ready to fold, cut, scribble, and create!
